Telangana registers 17 fresh cases of COVID-19, death toll rises to 29

Eleven fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported in Telangana on Saturday, taking the State’s total to 1,061 confirmed cases. The death toll rose to 29, with one fresh fatality reported in the last 24 hours. As many as 499 patients were discharged after recovery so far and 533 active confirmed cases are in the hospitals now, according to official status update. 

Director of Public Health and Family Welfare said that in view of Covid-19 global pandemic, the State of Telangana has strengthened surveillance, contact tracing and containment measures against the possible spread of disease. Fifteen new positive cases were reported from GHMC and two from Rangareddy district on Saturday.   

According to the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, the  three districts with zero positive cases till date are Warangal (Rural), Yadadri and Wanaparthy. The list of 16 districts in the State with zero positive cases since the past 14 days includes Karimnagar, Sircilla, Kamareddy, Mahbubnagar, Medak, Bhupalpally, Sangareddy, Jagityal, Nagarkurnool, Mulugu, Peddapally, Siddipet, Mahbubabad, Mancherial, Bhadradri and Narayanpet.

Age-wise distribution of COVID-19 cases in Telangana is as follows: 0-5 years’ age-group: 5 percent of the cases; 6-10 years age-group, 4 percent; 11-20 years age-group, 13 percent; 21-30 years age-group, 21 percent; 31-40 years age-group, 19 percent; 41-50 years age-group, 15 percent; 51-60 years age-group, 14 percent; 61-70 years age-group, 7 percent,  and 71-80 years age-group, 2 percent.      

Gender-wise distribution of COVID-19 cases in Telangana showed that males accounted for 705 cases (66.5 percent) and 356 females (3.5 percent). (eom)
