The Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic situation remained grim globally, with the confirmed cases across the world soaring to 2,48,54,140 and the death toll reaching 8,38,924 in the 216 affected countries and territories on Sunday, according to the latest update from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Globally, American region continued to be the worst-hit with 1,31,38,912 confirmed cases and 4,61,754 deaths. Europe came next with 42,05,708 confirmed cases and 2,19,131 deaths. South-East Asia region’s tally stood at 40,73,148 confirmed cases and 75,276 deaths.
Eastern Mediterranean region reported 19,03,547 confirmed cases and 50,466 deaths. African region registered 10,44,513 confirmed cases and 21,722 deaths. Western Pacific region recorded 4,87,571 confirmed cases and 10,562 deaths. WHO Risk Assessment at global level remained very high. (eom)
