There was a spurt in COVID-19 cases for the 17th consecutive day with 66 fresh cases reported in Telangana on Monday, taking the State’s total to 1,920 confirmed cases. The death toll rose to 56, with three fresh fatalities reported in the last 24 hours. As many as 1,164 patients were discharged after recovery so far and 700 active confirmed cases are in the hospitals now, according to official status update.
Director of Public Health and Family Welfare said that in view of Covid-19 global pandemic, the State of Telangana has strengthened surveillance, contact tracing and containment measures against the possible spread of disease. The new positive cases reported on Monday included 32 in GHMC area, one in Rangareddy district, 15 among migrants, 18 among foreign evacuees and one returnee from other States.
The three districts with zero positive cases till date are Warangal (Rural), Yadadri and Wanaparthy. 25 districts in the State with zero positive cases since the past 14 days include Karimnagar, Sircilla, Kamareddy, Mahbubnagar, Medak, Bhupalpally, Nagarkurnool, Mulugu, Peddapally, Siddipet, Mahbubabad, Mancherial, Bhadradri, Vikarabad, Nalgonda, Asifabad, Khammam, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Suryapet, Narayanpet, Warangal (Urban), Janagoan, Gadwal and Nirmal.
Large number of migrants are entering the State from across the country. The Evacuees from other countries that are arriving at Hyderabad by designated flights are being screened at the airports and the symptomatic persons are tested for Covid-19. All migrants arriving by road and rail are being screened for symptoms at railway stations and at road border check posts. Till date, 118 migrants have been tested positive for Covid-19.
The asymptomatic migrants arriving in Telangana through various points of entry are quarantined at home and in government quarantine facilities. The symptomatic migrants are isolated and tested and for further course of action. The general public are requested to inform the local authorities in case they identify any new persons, migrants who have newly arrived in the towns and villages.
The lockdown has been relaxed since the 16th May 2020. It is being observed that there is a lot of mobility and movement of people from all walks of life and of all age groups. There is a surge of positive cases since the past few days. For ensuring safety, the authorities have issued guidelines for strict compliance. Vulnerable Age Groups comprising children below 10 years of age and elderly people aged above 60 years are advised to stay indoors and avoid going outdoors. (eom)
