There was a spurt in COVID-19 cases for the seventh consecutive day with 40 fresh cases reported in Telangana on Friday, taking the State’s total to 1,454 confirmed cases. The death toll remained at 34, with no fresh fatalities reported in the last 24 hours. As many as 959 patients were discharged after recovery so far and 461 active confirmed cases are in the hospitals now, according to official status update.
Director of Public Health and Family Welfare said that in view of Covid-19 global pandemic, the State of Telangana has strengthened surveillance, contact tracing and containment measures against the possible spread of disease. The new positive cases reported on Friday included 33 in GHMC area and 7 among migrants..
The three districts with zero positive cases till date are Warangal (Rural), Yadadri and Wanaparthy. The list of 26 districts in the State with zero positive cases since the past 14 days includes Karimnagar, Sircilla, Kamareddy, Mahbubnagar, Medak, Bhupalpally, Sangareddy, Nagarkurnool, Mulugu, Peddapally, Siddipet, Mahbubabad, Mancherial, Bhadradri, Vikarabad, Nalgonda, Asifabad, Khammam, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Suryapet, Narayanpet, Warangal (Urban), Janagoan, Gadwal and Nirmal.
Large number of migrant population is entering the State from across the country. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has instructed the State officials to ensure that the asymptomatic migrants arriving in Telangana through various points of entry are quarantined at home and in government quarantine facilities. The symptomatic migrants will be isolated for diagnostic test and for further course of action. Till date, 44 migrants have been tested positive for Covid-19.
The general public are requested to inform the local authorities in case they identify any new persons or migrants who have newly arrived in the towns and villages. To screen the migrants entering into the State, 275 health teams have been deployed at 87 check posts in the border districts. About 1,000 health personnel are working in these teams. (eom)
