Telangana registers 38 fresh cases of COVID-19, death toll rises to 45

There was a surge in COVID-19 cases for the 13th consecutive day with 38 fresh cases reported in Telangana on Thursday, taking the State’s total to 1,699 confirmed cases. The death toll increased to 45, with five fresh fatalities reported in the last 24 hours. As many as 1,036 patients were discharged after recovery so far and 618 active confirmed cases are in the hospitals now, according to official status update. 

Director of Public Health and Family Welfare said that in view of Covid-19 global pandemic, the State of Telangana has strengthened surveillance, contact tracing and containment measures against the possible spread of disease. The new positive cases reported on Thursday included 26 in GHMC area, two in Ranga Reddy district and 10 among migrants.  

The three districts with zero positive cases till date are Warangal (Rural), Yadadri and Wanaparthy. 25 districts in the State with zero positive cases since the past 14 days include Karimnagar, Sircilla, Kamareddy, Mahbubnagar, Medak, Bhupalpally,  Nagarkurnool, Mulugu, Peddapally, Siddipet, Mahbubabad, Mancherial, Bhadradri, Vikarabad, Nalgonda, Asifabad, Khammam, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Suryapet, Narayanpet, Warangal (Urban), Janagoan, Gadwal and Nirmal.

Large number of migrants are entering the State from across the country. The Evacuees from other countries that are arriving at Hyderabad by designated flights are being screened at the airports and the symptomatic persons are tested for Covid-19. All migrants arriving by road and rail are being screened for symptoms at railway stations and at road border check posts. Till date, 99 migrants have been tested positive for Covid-19. 

The asymptomatic migrants arriving in Telangana through various points of entry are quarantined at home and in government quarantine facilities. The symptomatic migrants are isolated and tested and for further course of action. The general public are requested to inform the local authorities in case they identify any new persons, migrants who have newly arrived in the towns and villages. (eom)
