The Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic situation remained grim globally, with the confirmed cases across the world soaring to 2,40,21,218 and the death toll reaching 8,21,462 in the 216 affected countries and territories on Thursday, according to the latest update from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Globally, American region continued to be the worst-hit with 1,27,34,213 confirmed cases and 4,50,814 deaths. Europe came next with 41,00,893 confirmed cases and 2,18,035 deaths. South-East Asia region’s tally stood at 38,21,367 confirmed cases and 71,777 deaths.
Eastern Mediterranean region reported 18,65,731 confirmed cases and 49,562 deaths. African region registered 10,26,101 confirmed cases and 21,093 deaths. Western Pacific region recorded 4,72,172 confirmed cases and 10,168 deaths. WHO Risk Assessment at global level remained very high. (eom)
