The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 pandemic sweeping across the globe reached 6,38,146 even as the confirmed death toll crossed the 30,000 mark.
In fact, 30,039 deaths occurred in the 203 affected countries/territories so far since the outbreak of the pandemic.
According to the latest Situation Report from the World Health Organization (WHO), 63,159 fresh cases were reported and 3,464 deaths occurred globally in the last 24 hours. European region was the worst-affected with 36,688 fresh cases and 2,753 deaths during the day. The American region came with 20,484 fresh cases and 488 deaths. Eastern Mediterranean region reported 3,846 fresh cases and 160 deaths. Western Pacific region had 1,343 fresh cases and 34 deaths. South-East Asia region registered 624 fresh cases and 25 deaths. African Region had 174 fresh cases and 4 deaths.
The WHO Risk Assessment at Global Level remained Very High.
One new country/territory/area reported cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. It was identified as Northern Mariana Islands.
The COVID-19 Solidarity Fund has now received donations of more than US$ 108 million, from 2,03,000 individuals and organizations.
WHO, together with national authorities, is monitoring the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on people’s mental health, and providing information and guidance to governments and the public. On 27 March, WHO European Region published an article on mental health and psychological resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic; highlighting the potential mental health impacts on children and the elderly.
