COVID-19 CASES SOAR TO 16,96,909 AS DEATH TOLL JUMPS TO 1,05,952 GLOBALLY

The Corona Virus (CPVID-19) pandemic situation continued to worsen globally, with the confirmed cases across the world jumping to 16,96,909 and the death toll reaching 1,05,952 in the 213 affected countries and territories, according to the latest update from the World Health Organization (WHO).

Globally, European region continued to be the worst-hit, with 8,80,106 confirmed cases and 74,237 deaths. American region came next with 5,73,940 confirmed cases and 21,531 deaths. Western Pacific region’s tally stood at 1,20,116 confirmed cases and 4,058 deaths. Eastern Mediterranean region reported 95,945 confirmed cases and 4,943 deaths. South-East Asia region recorded 16,041 confirmed cases and 728 deaths and African region witnessed 9,728 confirmed cases and 444 deaths. WHO Risk Assessment at global level remained very high.

No new country/territory/area reported cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The total global deaths from COVID-19 has surpassed 1,00,000. WHO has published a document ‘Target Product Profiles for COVID-19 Vaccines’. The document describes the preferred and minimally acceptable profiles for human vaccines for long term protection of persons at high risk of COVID-19 infection, such as healthcare workers; and for reactive use in outbreak settings.
